Chukar and Pheasant Championships
Pheasant Ridge will be holding two Chukar Championships and two Pheasant Championships during the 2010-2011 season. The first Chukar Championship will be held on September 25th 2010 and the second will be held on December 4th 2010. The Pheasant Championships will be held on September 18th 2010 and November 20th 2010.These events will prove to be both challenging as well as fun. Sign in begins at 8am and event will start at 8:30 am. Competitors must register at least on week before each event. When you register you will be given a time in which you are to be in the field. The sooner you register the more time slots you will have to choose from.
In a chukar/ pheasant challence a competitor and his dog sit in a blind while his birds are planted. Four chukar/ pheasant are planted. The competitor is then escorted into the field by a Judge and the hunt begins. The hunter has 20 minutes and eight shot shells to harvest the four chukar/ pheasant. Teams recieve 30 minutes, six chukar/ pheasant and 12 shells. The event is scored as below.
Awards
The top three places in all the divisions will be awarded a trophy. Ten dollars per entry will be placed in a purse and will be divided as follows: 50% first 30% second and 20% third in all divisions. Awards will also be given for best overall in all divisions for competitors whom compete in three championships. If you compete in all four championships your lowest score will be dropped.
Divisions
Flushing Singles Open to any flushing dog. One hunter/handler, four chukars/ pheasant and eight shells. Cost to compete is $80.00 for chukar and $110.00 for pheasant.
Flushing Team Open to any flushing dog and a team of two hunters. Six chukars/pheasant and twelve shells(six per gun). Cost to compete is $120.00 for chukar and $150.00 for pheasant.
Pointing Singles Open to any pointing dog. One hunter/handler, four chukars/ pheasant and eight shells. Cost to compete is $80.00 for chukar and $110.00 for pheasant
Pointing Team Open to any pointing dog and a team of two hunters. Six chukar/pheasant and twelve shells (six per gun).Cost to compete is $120.00 for chukar and $150 for pheasant.
Scoring
20 points for each bagged chukar/ pheasant in hand
15 points for each "find" flushed or pointed
5 points each remaining loaded shell
10 points for each retrieve within one step of hunter
1 point for each full thirty seconds under the allocated qualifying time limit. Time stops when the last bird is in hunters hand and dog is on lead.
Tie scores will be broken first by retrieving points, second by remaining shell points and thirdly by lowest qualifying time.
Safety and sportsmanlike conduct is of our highest concern. Upland hunting has long been a "gentleman sport" so please conduct yourself as such. These events are for your dogs benefit so enjoy the dog work and have fun!
